John Cox's Creature Workshop

The location work for ‘Komodo’ was filmed in the cane fields around Yatala on the Gold Coast, Queensland. Interiors were filmed at Village Roadshow Studios, Coomera, Gold Coast.

John Cox’s Creature Workshop designed and created 7 animatronic Komodo dragons for the film. There were 3 complete Komodos all measuring 14ft long, and there were 4 ‘half body’ Komodo. All of the versions were created for very specific movement requirements or for various death scenes.
