Today is the official cinema launch of Australian war film Canopy. The compelling story of an Australian fighter pilot shot down in combat who awakens suspended in the treetops of the Singapore jungle. I had the absolute immersive pleasure of seeing the Australian Premier of Canopy at the Gold Coast Film Festival followed by a Q&A with first time feature film director Aaron Wilson. Also there where Alan Crabb, co-founder of Pozzible, the crowd funding group who helped them raise the funds to employ the sound technicians that ensure this incredible experience in cinema, and the Visual Effects team. Read MoreAt the end of 2014 our son, Ethan, & 11 other Benowa State High School students are visiting Botswana & Namibia to conduct a building project to help a disadvantaged community through World Challenge. The trip consists of 1 week orientation during which they will spend 5 days on a trek with the Kalahari Bushmen (learning to survive on grubs and snake bites!…?), then a week living with, and doing a building project for, a disadvantaged village in Botswana, then a week doing 2 treks in Namibia. Read More‘Blue Perspective’ ‘Blue Perspective’ was John’s entry into the 2013 SWELL Sculpture Festival held at Currumbin Beach on the Gold Coast in September 2013. The ‘surfer girl’, as she became known, stood 3 metres tall and was positioned at the northern end of Currumbin beach looking out over the ocean towards the Surfers Paradise skyline. It was a perfect setting for both sunrise and sunsets. ‘Blue Perspective’ was purchased by City of Gold Coast, Councillor Dawn Critchlow. With paddle board now in hand, the work is now permanently located at Southport Broadwater Parklands.
